Kofta Smashed Tacos - Olive Branch Oil & Spice

This is delicious! Spiced ground beef smashed in a tortilla and served with tomatoes, cucumbers and a minty tzatziki. You also could make this a more traditional areya by grilling the filling in a pita instead of the tortilla.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef (or lamb)
  • 1 shallot, minced
  • 2 cloves garlic, grated
  • 1 cup parsley, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1/2 teaspoon sumac
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon Spanish smoked paprika
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 1 cup greek yogurt
  • 1/2 lemon, juiced
  • 1/2 lemon, cut into wedges
  • 2 Persian cucumbers, 1 grated, 1 sliced
  • 1 cup grape tomatoes, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons dill, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon mint, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon Koroneiki Greek Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  • 8 small flour tortillas

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix the ground beef, shallot, garlic, parsley, sumac, nutmeg, paprika, and 1 teaspoon salt.
  2. Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Spread the meat mixture in a thin layer over the tortillas. Add to the saute pan meat side down and cook for 3 minutes per side until the meat is caramelized and the tortilla is crisp.
  3. While the tacos cook, make the tzatziki by mixing the yogurt, lemon juice, red pepper flakes, grated cucumber, dill, mint and 1 teaspoon salt.
  4. Serve the tacos with a tzatziki, sliced cucumbers, tomatoes, and lemon.
