This is delicious! Spiced ground beef smashed in a tortilla and served with tomatoes, cucumbers and a minty tzatziki. You also could make this a more traditional areya by grilling the filling in a pita instead of the tortilla.
Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef (or lamb)
- 1 shallot, minced
- 2 cloves garlic, grated
- 1 cup parsley, minced
- 1 teaspoon ground allspice
- 1/2 teaspoon sumac
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/2 teaspoon Spanish smoked paprika
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
- 1 cup greek yogurt
- 1/2 lemon, juiced
- 1/2 lemon, cut into wedges
- 2 Persian cucumbers, 1 grated, 1 sliced
- 1 cup grape tomatoes, sliced
- 2 tablespoons dill, chopped
- 1 tablespoon mint, chopped
- 1 tablespoon Koroneiki Greek Extra Virgin Olive Oil
- 8 small flour tortillas
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix the ground beef, shallot, garlic, parsley, sumac, nutmeg, paprika, and 1 teaspoon salt.
- Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Spread the meat mixture in a thin layer over the tortillas. Add to the saute pan meat side down and cook for 3 minutes per side until the meat is caramelized and the tortilla is crisp.
- While the tacos cook, make the tzatziki by mixing the yogurt, lemon juice, red pepper flakes, grated cucumber, dill, mint and 1 teaspoon salt.
- Serve the tacos with a tzatziki, sliced cucumbers, tomatoes, and lemon.
