Harissa Meatballs

Deliciously spiced meatballs in a spicy harissa tomato sauce!

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 2 teaspoons Ras El Hanout
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 1 onion, grated
  • 1 28 ounce can crushed tomatoes
  • 1/4 cup Garlic Fused Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  • 1 tablespoon harissa
  • 1 cup Greek yogurt
  • 1/4 cup parsley, chopped
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1 can chickpeas, drained and rinsed
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • Pita or flatbread for serving

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl mix the ground beef, bread crumbs, egg, and Ras El Hanout. Form into balls.
  2. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the meatballs and sear for 2 minutes per side. Add the onion and tomato paste and saute for 2 minutes. Mix in the tomatoes, harissa, chickpeas, 1 teaspoon of salt and 1/2 teaspoon of pepper.  Partially cover and simmer for 15 minutes until the meatballs are cooked through. 
  3. While the meatballs cook, mix the yogurt, lemon juice, garlic, parsley, 1 teaspoon salt and 1/2 teaspoon pepper together. 
  4. When the meatballs are cooked through serve with yogurt and flatbread.
